Beer Festival News

Preparing to make its appearance.

The first beer for the 2017 Calderdale Beer and Cider Festival was ordered on a return journey from Manchester following discussions with the Managing Director of Elland Brewery, Steve Francis, on the 19th January 2017. It was casked at the end of April and this photograph shows the cask in the brewery on the 17th June 2017.
You’ve probably guessed that this beer is the multi-award winning 1872 Porter. On the date of this photo, the 1872 Porter was tasted (from a different barrel in the same batch) and it was delicious. Just imagine what it will taste like when this cask arrives at our festival after five months maturing in wood at the brewery. Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
We would take this opportunity to thank Steve Francis, Mike Hiscock and all the Elland Team for their amazing support of the branch and the beer festival. Yet again Elland Brewery have kindly donated a second cask to the festival; Summer Breeze (4.6%) – A crisp and fruity pale and hoppy ale with a floral nose. Another of  the many  excellent ales brewed by Elland Brewery.

Meet The Brewer at the Fox & Goose

At a Meet the Brewer Evening at the Fox and Goose, Hebden Bridge, on 15th June 2017, Dave Mortimer and Chris Milton (centre), the brewers and owners of Calderdale’s newest brewery, Eagle’s Crag in Todmorden, agreed to provide a nine of ‘Golden Eagle’ for the 2017 Calderdale Beer and Cider Festival. The deal was sealed via a ceremonial shaking of hands (and pointing) with Richard Lee, Halifax and Calderdale CAMRA’s Branch Chair (left) and Joint Beer Festival Organiser, John Hartley (right); the pointing having originated from an 18th Century Eagle Custom. Golden Eagle (4.7%) is a perfectly balanced hoppy and malty beer which includes Centennial, Columbus and Cascade hops.

Dave and Chris have also generously donated a second Eagle’s Crag cask to the Festival. At present the full details of the second cask have not been finalised, but we’ll let you know as soon as all the details are known.
