On Wednesday 9th November 2016, members of the branch presented Dan Tasker (owner and brewer at Bridestones Brewery) with two awards following successes at the 2016 Beer and Cider Festival; the awards were the Speciality Ale of the Festival and the bronze award for the The Edward Lee Supreme Champion Ale of the Festival. These awards were both achieved by Platelayer’s Vanilla Porter which was specially commissioned for the 2016 Calderdale Beer and Cider Festival. Dan is pictured above with some of the branch members who attended the event. Thanks to Dan for brewing the commissioned ale and to the staff of the New Delight, Colden for hosting the presentation event.

 

Bingley

On Thursday 17th November 2016, 18 members of the branch presented Bingley Brewery and Kathryn Hey with two awards following the successes of Hey’s Gold at the 2016 Beer and Cider Festival

Hey’s Gold was commissioned by Kathryn (a descendent of Joseph Hey the former Bradford brewer) and was brewed by Darren Marks (the owner and brewer at Bingley Brewery). Hey’s Gold was voted Golden Ale of the 2016 Beer and Cider Festival and gained the silver award in The Edward Lee Supreme Champion Ale of the Festival. Thanks to Darren, Anne, Spike and Brett at Bingley Brewery for their hospitality and to Kathryn and Malcolm Toft (Hey’s Brewery Historian) for attending the presentation event. Thanks to all concerned for supporting the 2016 Beer and Cider Festival.

Elland

On Thursday 24th November 2016, members of the branch (and invited members of other branches) presented Elland Brewery with two awards following successes at the 2016 Beer and Cider Festival; the Stout/Porter of the Festival and The Edward Lee Supreme Champion Ale of the Festival.

These awards were both achieved by the iconic 1872 Porter. Pictured above with the two certificates are (from left to right) Mike Hiscock (Brewery Manager, Elland Brewery), John Hartley (Beer Festival Sponsorship Co-ordinator), Edward Lee (Beer Festival Organiser) and Steve Francis (Managing Director, Elland Brewery). On Saturday 21st January, Tony and Jackie Rogers of Half Moon Brewery, Ellerton, York were presented with the Pale Ale of the Festival Award by the members of Halifax and Calderdale CAMRA. The award was received for Half Moon’s Hopwarts Express (5.5%) which was commissioned by the CAMRA Branch for the 2016 Calderdale Beer and Cider Festival at Hebden Bridge Town Hall. The presentation took place in a crowded Chequers Micropub in Beverley and was attended by the brewers, 20 members of the Halifax and Calderdale CAMRA Branch, invited members from other CAMRA branches, the Breweries’ supporters from Ellerton and Beverley locals.
